The evolution of packaging: from simple wrapping to a distinctive and sustainable element

Initially, the packaging was created to keep the goods intact and protect them during the movement from the producer to the consumer. In fact, during transport and storage, the goods risk being damaged due to external factors such as humidity, heat, light and packaging plays a fundamental role.

Over time, packaging has also taken on other functions, not just that of protecting the goods:

-storage function and ease of use to improve the shopping experience;

-informative function: through the labels, the packaging informs about the safety and hygiene of the products;

-brand identity and recognition function: it is a tool for communicating corporate values;

-aesthetic and emotional function to attract the consumer and entice him to buy.

In addition to this, packaging today must aim to be as sustainable as possible. But what does it mean to make packaging sustainable?

It means making it in such a way as to reduce its environmental impact without forgetting its main functions. This serves to

-protect the environment and everyone's health;

-create value for the company in terms of customer loyalty, brand reputation and business growth;

-improve corporate social responsibility;

-respond to the growing sensitivity of consumers towards environmental issues;

-consolidate brand credibility and customer trust.

For this reason, recycled, recyclable and biodegradable packaging should be chosen to get closer and closer to sustainable logistics.
