Last mile: the delivery of the last mile

The term last mile is used as a synonym for "delivery of the last mile": it refers to the last journey of goods before reaching the end customer and does not always correspond to a short distance, but rather it is a specific service.

The logistics sector has evolved a lot in recent years mainly thanks to online purchases and e-commerce. As a result, millions of deliveries are made every day to both companies and private customers. Each delivery is therefore the result of a complex process that starts from the manufacturing company and allows the delivery of products of all kinds to companies, stores and private customers.

In this context, the last mile service is always carried out by road thanks to the use of trucks, vans or the like and can also cover extended distances. The delivery of the last mile is equivalent to the transfer of goods from a logistics hub to its final destination and differs according to the B2B and / or B2C logic:

  • B2B production system: in this case the last mile corresponds to the supply of raw materials to factories in order to advance their production processes;

  • B2B distribution system: the last mile delivers the products to fill the departments of the points of sale;

  • B2C retail distribution system: it corresponds to the direct delivery to the final customer deriving from an online purchase.

Ceccarelli Group, among its services, also deals with the last step of the supply chain and thanks to its branches in Lombardy, Veneto and Friuli Venzia Giulia is able to offer last mile services, among others, for industrial products, electronic products, automotive spare parts and others.
