Reverse logistics: what it is and why it is important

Reverse logistics begins when the product lifecycle ends and involves managing the flow of goods from the final customer to the initial stage of the production chain.

It is an inverse distribution that induces the goods and the information to travel in opposite direction regarding the normal logistic activities.

The reverse logistics therefore allows the returned products to regain new value since it is just the management of the returns its typical activity. The return is generated when a good is defective, non-compliant or has been damaged during transport.

Thanks to reverse logistics, returns are relocated to secondary markets such as outlets, disposed of or regenerated. The advantages are several:

  • environmental benefits: it avoids the exploitation of new resources but gives new value to the product, with the possibility of putting it back on the market.

  • image benefits for the company and customer satisfaction: reverse logistics represent a strong competitive advantage for companies and customers are increasingly interested in companies involved in environmental protection.

  • economic benefits: by discovering new solutions for reused goods, economic value is recovered.

  • better stock control: reverse logistics promotes a better reorganisation of the stock, avoiding the storage of obsolete goods.

Ceccarelli Group applies reverse logistics thanks to registration in the Albo Nazionale Gestori Ambientali (DM 406/98) and manages, directly or through qualified and authorized partners, the transport of any type of waste, even dangerous.
